Three Fatally Hurt In Blast At Smethport
Smethport Oct 7 three men died in a blast that destroyed the Smethport Acetone Company plant at East Smethport shortly before noon. The dead are Grant Conpenter 60 Pred Mencer 35 and Chester Mattern 7. Carpenter and Mattern died at hospital. Mencer died last night. Property damage estimated at $200,000. Mattern plant chemist survived by wife and daughter. Mencer leaves a wife and grown family. Carpenter was unmarried. Body taken to Altoona for burial.
