Two Convicted Slayers Executed Today in Pennsylvania
William Paul Byron age 40 and Charles Frederick Moyer age 25 were electrocuted at Rackylay Penitentiary for the holdup slaying of gasoline station attendant Harvey Zerbe on July 19, 1946. The executions are the second and third in a six‑execution sequence in Pennsylvania. Both men appealed, contending Zerbe was killed by a gasoline station owner’s bullets during the exchange of shots, and the state Supreme Court upheld the lower court ruling that the victim fired in self defense.
