Calm Continues In Little Rock
In Little Rock calm persisted after a weekend of tension sparked by a dance incident at Central High. Robert King, 19, a 1956 Central High graduate, said a paratrooper struck him with a rifle butt and menaced with a bayonet when he refused to move outside for a smoke. Army officials confirmed a pushing incident but denied a bayonet use, while noting King grabbed a rifle. Authorities had suspended six white students over a mass walkout at Central High. The Army estimated 2,900 guardsmen cost about 95,000 dollars daily.
