State Police Deny Leak In Raid Plans
Erie State police denied any leak of planned raids on 45 Erie County establishments on September 13. Capt. Roper E Pflugfelder said machines found Saturday were placed in a Greene Township barn after the raids, and there was no tip off. Authorities noted the machines were illegal gambling devices and may be destroyed under court orders.

The Oxford situation calmed as shopkeepers reopened while Mississippi officials faced pressure. Barnett worked in Jackson under patrols as telegrams and letters poured in, most supporting the four year governor. Former Maj. Gen. Edwin A. Walker faced psychiatric examination after leading riot-causing students toward federal marshals at the university registration building. Walker’s arrest and charges include incitement, with a 60 to 90 day exam ahead, delaying his release by posting a $100,000 bond. Prisoners in federal custody were reduced to five in a stockade near the university airport.
