A spate of highway crashes over a weekend killed ten people, including a 3 year old Corry area resident and a former Corry man now living in Bemus Point. PITTSBURGH AP A right handed duel between Vernon Law of Pittsburgh and Art Ditmar of New York is forecast for the opening game of the 1960 World Series between the Pirates and Yankees. Lin was named by manager Murtaugh after Law recovered from a sprained left ankle. Dick Groat reports the captain will play, and Bob Friend will start the second game.
Funeral services are arranged for Steve Ciba, 97, of Bradford, who died after a train struck his vehicle at a rural crossing near Lewis Run on a Saturday afternoon. He had exited the Susquehanna Chemical complex to cross west when his car stalled on the tracks, and a three-car tank train struck and dragged him before stopping. Investigators noted the view of the crossing was partially blocked by a nearby siding.
Harold H Sherman, after 20 years as a federal alcohol and tobacco tax investigator in Little Rock, notes moonshiners are quicker and smarter, less likely to pull a gun, but more cunning and elusive as they run.

In Ashland Alabama three women from a gos pel singing family were found slain in a home. A barefoot killer used a razor sharp kitchen knife, leaving a 10 inch blade and bloody footprints. The estranged husband was jailed for questioning but denied involvement. The victims were Mrs John D Martin 31 mother Ethel Ogle 63 and Everlena Ogle 82. Public Safety Director called the killings a sadistic revenge act. Police ruled out robbery.
AP survey shows Nixon leading in 22 states with 211 electoral votes while Kennedy leads in 14 states with 124 votes. The gap is 38 votes, with six large states Florida California New York Pennsylvania Ohio Texas Michigan among tossups. Catholicism may hurt Kennedy in several regions, while some shifts favor him in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Vice President Richard M Nixon and Mrs Nixon plan a one day visit to the Solid South. He will help launch motorcades of women workers and renew Eisenhower era ties with Richmond Virginia and Charlotte North Carolina. A day in Washington included a position paper urging a four point medical program.

A vehicle swerved from Route 68 in Evans City Pennsylvania and toppled steel guard posts before rolling over. John 1. Matheson, 25, of nearby Mbus was killed in the crash.
