United Press reports massive tornado devastation in St Louis with widespread displacement. Red Cross and federal troops aid relief as 700+ injured, 85 dead confirmed, 23 still missing, and property losses estimated at 50 to 75 million dollars.
Jewish residents will observe Yom Kippur on Thursday with synagogue services on West Chirrel Street and the usual closure of Jewish business. The day focuses on atonement and reconciliation between people and God, with fasting and prayers from eventide to eventide, a Memorial Service for the dead, and the closing Nella service.
On a Mercer county farm near Leesburg officials report a double death. McCracken was found shot in the head and Mrs. Hlarne was found dead with a gunshot wound. Prosector J Ry Rickard believes McCracken sought mortgage payment from his sister who refused. Authorities say murder and suicide occurred Sunday.
The United Brethren church on North Center street in Corry restored its edifice and reduced debt to under 8000 after a drive that raised 9061 in cash and pledges. Dr. N H McAllister and Rev FH Beagles led services with remarks from former pastor Jot Little Cooley and greetings from local pastors. The remodeling, costing about 90000, included brickwork interior decor lighting and other improvements.
Franklin, Sept. 8 United Press reports Jon France, 44, an employee of the Eclipse works at Atlantic Refining Co, was found asphyxiated yesterday in a tank during a tour of inspection. Believed to have fallen into the tank after a nap during a 20 hour shift.
The Corey Hospital received conditional approval indicating the local institution has accepted the requirements for patient care but cannot yet implement them fully due to time or other acceptable reasons. The movement toward hospital standardization, urged by the American College of Surgeons, aims to ensure humane and economical care by recognizing approved hospitals.
City council members are expected to convene in the municipal building for the regular session this evening. The meeting will address routine business including petitions and the payment of bills.
Hotel Corry reports September as its strongest month ever with plans to upgrade the coffee shop. Changes include removing the counter and adding tables to seat six and four, reflecting growing patronage from travelers and locals. All supplies will be cash-based with end-of-month account summaries, and local merchants supply provisions.

Titusville Oct 3 Lawrence Kightlinger 20 died at Titusville City hospital shortly after 7 oclock Sunday evening after suffering for thirty six hours from burns he sustained in a gas explosion in the cellar of his father William Kightlinger home on the Mt Hope road about a mile from the main road over Goodsoil. He was badly burned from head to feet with deep burns in many places.
Cory enjoyed midsummer weather yesterday as the warmest August day in years. Eastern regions recorded high temperatures and motorists seized the opportunity for trips to healthy spots. The fine conditions drew hundreds of automobile owners to take advantage of the pleasant Sunday.
Chairman Madden of the House Appropriations Committee said after a White House conference that a $200,000,000 tax reduction is feasible next year with a central aim of about a one third cut in the corporate tax. The administration expects higher expenditures and some revenue losses.
Will Fox, longtime Corry railroad telegraph operator, died about 10 this morning in Meadville after months of illness. He served the Erie as dispatcher office staff in Meadville and spent years in Corry. Survived by wife, a son John Fox, and two daughters Mrs Jack Taylor and Mrs Georgia Hayes. Body to be brought to Corry for services Thursday at 4 PM, burial at Pine Grove cemetery beside wife and daughter.
Arrangements by St Thomas church congregation aim to establish permanent care of lots in St Thomas cemetery outside the city. A meeting of lot owners was held yesterday afternoon called by Father F J Graves pastor. Initial steps were taken to ensure permanent care and plans for further improvements and a spring beautification program were outlined.
The McCormick company completed resurfacing Center street between the Pennsyl, Yattin and Erie Railroad tracks after a Saturday start. A plant delay forced a street closure Saturday night and Sunday. The firm also finished resurfacing the road from Novo Center street to the water company's pumping station.
United States and France move toward a conciliatory tariff dispute settlement. Proposals seek to equalize production costs by reviewing American rates and relaxing restrictive policies on French goods. Two major obstacles remain: tariff commission and Agriculture Department probes may not justify the demanded reductions, and France seeks substantial rate relief amid existing higher US duties.

After a brief sacinth hour the meeting adjourned as Miss Argilla Sackett left Mayville after a short visit at her home. Mrs. Sackett will spend several months there with her cousin Mrs. Blowers.
Commer Dan Hanley of Erie conducts inquiry into the death of Mrs Mary Morrow aged 88 at St Vincent's Hospital. Morrow had been injured on September 2 when the machine she rode in was struck from the rear by another car at Twenty Fifth and Base Avenue in Erie.
