Two Corry motorists likely will file damage claims after their cars fell into a washed out excavation on North Center Street. Police say Paul H. Gariepy left the curb on South Center street while turning to speak to a rear seat passenger. His auto veered 22 feet, hit a sign, crossed lanes, and struck Mrs. Lawrence Watrous's parked car causing about 150 dollars in damage. Gariepy faces a reckless driving charge filed with Alderman Porter Auer.
Thomas J. Kuss admitted participation in the Nichols Gravis restaurant burglary after police recovered additional loot. A coffee bag with 133 cigarette packs was found missing from the machine. Kuss pled guilty to burglary charges in City Police and State Police cases and was sent to Erie County Court for further proceedings.
Sandra Doldge of Orsland Pennsylvania crowned queen at halftime of the West Virginia Virginia football game in Richmond. Gov Ml Kertis presided as ceremony and honor were announced amid 1863 festival events.
Erie police and County Coroner Warren Wood report Benjamin Cox a 26 year old Corry man died in his parked car on East 15th Street Erie. He had just picked up dry ice for the Corry Rubber Corp and appeared to have been dead at least 24 hours the cause likely heart attack per owners and investigators.
James A Shields 23 formerly of Cony now living in Euclid Ohio pleaded guilty before Alderman Cobbett to larceny. He admitted stealing six blank Mobil Oil checks from North Center street station and one forged check cashed at Bemis Grocery Catling. He faces arraignment on forgery and larceny charges with eight prior arrests on fraud related charges.
Catherine Kirkland 51, of Duquesne, is charged with murder in the death of Mildred Sims 30, of Pittsburgh's Hill District. Sims died from a neck wound Saturday night at Mercy Hospital after an argument at Sims home over a man. Kirkland was arrested in Duquesne and handed to Pittsburgh homicide detectives.
Dr Frank C. Mann longtime director of the Mayo Foundation Institute of Experimental Medicine died yesterday in Rochester. He was a noted authority on the liver kidneys and blood vessels and planned to retire in 1952 after a year as director.
State Police raided 45 establishments in Exe County seizing 123 iron skilled coin machines declared gambling devices. Lt Frank McKetta said all such machines will be removed once located. District Attorney Johnson seeks court destruction of seized machines with hearings possible for owners.
A Sunday early morning crash near Corty on Route 6 involved Kathryn Hoover of Erie. Her car swerved to avoid a parked vehicle, traveled across the road, hit a ditch and spun around. Damage estimated at $500 with no injuries.
