Kingston Jamaica October 1 The 450 passengers of the grounded liner Rotterdam were ashore after rescue by the British freighter Arugani. About 100 crew members including Capt Jan Van Volken remained aboard the 4000 ton ship stuck on Morant Keys 60 miles southeast of Jamaica. The Arugani’s decks and cabins were crowded for the seven hour lift. Passengers rested ashore in hotels while the Holland America Line plans to send Volendam to New York.

Governor George H. Earle hopes improving business and tax receipts may avoid a special legislative session early next year. He warned a 1939 failure to fund unemployment relief for the second year could force a meeting before May 31, 1936, if conditions worsen. He noted better business conditions and tax collections should surpass prior estimates, but would not call an extraordinary session unless the public would suffer without one. Improvements in national and state conditions have been marked, he said.
Corty post office workers gain a 40 hour five day week effective today. Regular staff share the plan while rural carriers and the postmaster are excluded. Substitutes may receive more weekly hours, with few new hires.

The Erie county unit opposes adopting a report in favor of birth control and protests the refusal of Vice President Mrs Frank A Kaiser to resign. Kaiser says resignation would set a dangerous precedent and argues for full discussion without backing or opposing birth control.
Bernard J. Cochran district WPA supervisor said 2,400 men will gain employment under the expanded road program in Erie County. Workers will improve dirt roads across northwest Pennsylvania with wages from 50.50 to 94 a month based on skilled labor. Numerous Corryites and Brie City residents are among those to be placed on the rolls.
In Erie county court Bert Watrous of Union City filed a $10,000 damage suit Tuesday against Fred Cafisch of Union City City, claiming an auto collision on the Union City Garry road last May caused severe injuries. Attorney Y Rossiter represents Watrous.
