Hospitals Face Deepening Financial Strain Across Pennsylvania
The Hospital Association of Pennsylvania reports hospitals provided more than 8 million dollars in free care beyond state aid last year, with total free service reaching about 15.6 million dollars. As state funds dry up, many smaller hospitals may cut beds and staff, relying on community chest campaigns and pledges to sustain emergency and uninsured care.

Twenty Years Ago from Journal Files October 1 1912
A birthday gathering at Mrs. L. G. Davis’s East Congress street home drew neighbors as they took possession yesterday. Sheriff Moomy ordered last night’s boxing program at the Library Theatre halted after a clash between Griffith and promoter Fortrey. Old railroad tickets from 1860 were shown as relics, including seats from Warren to A. & S. Junction, now Corry. Relatives report Michael Scully, formerly of the city, died in California. Sid Loucks, longtime St James Hotel manager, has resigned for Jamestown. John Love and wife traveled to Albion for road work supervision. C. F. Rogers went to Warren to oversee local firm construction.
