Harrisburg reports Erie County recorded 4 896 resident live births in 1966, down 162 from 4 078 the year before, with a birth rate of 18.9 per 1 000. First births made up 31.9 percent, second 23 percent, third 16 percent, and seven or more 3.5 percent, while 4 460 births weighed five pounds nine ounces or more and 426 were underweight.
Former President Dwight D. Eisenhower and his wife donate their Gettysburg Pennsylvania farm and house to the United States to become a national historic site. They will reside there during Eisenhower's lifetime while future development of visitor facilities is planned. The simple transfer occurred in Gettysburg with Eisenhowers and Interior Secretary Udall present. The 230 acre property abuts the Gettysburg National Military Park and was bought in 1950.
