Tax Increase Decision Due Around End Of '66
President Johnson said he hopes to decide around year end whether to ask Congress for a tax increase. No decision has been made, and he will wait for full facts before any guess. Boggs had forecast a $10 to $15 billion hike. Johnson cut back $5.3 billion in programs and saved over $3 billion in the current year. He plans talks with top defense and economic advisers as Vietnam continues.
