The Senate Factions and Civil Rights Debate Begin
The Corry Journal notes the Senate faces a friction over civil rights as it opens with the Eighty-fifth Congress. It highlights leadership by Sam Rayburn and Lyndon B. Johnson and the potential shift to curb the filibuster via a simple majority vote, signaling a national crossfire over civil rights policy.

Slippery Route 77 crash linked to November snow
A Buick sedan driven by Edward Kane of Bryn Mawr skidded on Route 77 Sunday afternoon and crashed into a car driven by W H Laker of Diamond. The impact followed a snowstorm that blanketed Corry and nearby areas. A separate fire gutted Francis Layden’s beer parlors and restaurant and the upstairs apartments near Consumers Oil in Union City, believed sparked by a furnace in the basement. The Church of the Nazarene was rededicated in a Sunday ceremony with Rev Everett Altic as pastor. Bank Christmas Club checks are expected to be mailed this week, and Golden Rate Club members are urged to attend a dinner at St Paul’s to plan for the season.
