Traffic ran slowly all day Sunday, with minor delays and a yard engine damaging a new depot spur. The new line is reported smooth and strong for heavy freight, with trains running well after initial operation.
Meadville Nov 20 P H Laughlin District Deputy for the Twenty District Knights of Columbus died suddenly aboard an Erie passenger train en route to Ol City. The train returned to the depot where Coroner Byham declared heart failure as the cause. Laughlin, an Ashland, Pa., native, was well known among Knights of Columbus members statewide.
Pittsburgh report details R. M. Baker who died after shielding a young girl from danger at the Pittsburgh railway central office. He is credited with saving Jane Connell and guiding another to safety as a night train approached. The incident occurred early in the morning. weather forecasts noted colder conditions on Tuesday.
The Ninth Annual Road Supervisors Convention of Erie county will convene next Saturday December 50 at Erie Invitations and programs have been issued Supt of Highways Lyle VanVleck will speak in the forenoon Assemblyman Elect L Alexander and Mr Boyce of Erie will speak in the afternoon on future highway department work and state legislation The gathering aims to explore relations between the state highway department and the Supervisors and is billed as one of the era’s notable meetings
Major Wilcox and National Guard officers in Oil City receive orders for a state militia officers school to be held at two o'clock in the Masons Building headquarters of the Math regiment. Noted speakers include Lieutenant Kruger of the U S Army and several local officers. Corry contingent to attend.
Erie police report Spencer a former Harborcreek poultry thief nicknamed Harl Deer was arrested in Buffalo after extradition papers prepared by County Detective Sullivan. Local Officer Merritt receives a reward for information leading to his capture. Spencer faced charges from an Erie and Corry theft ring and has evaded capture previously.
This morning before Alderman Porter the Briggs versus Love lace case on cutting timber without permit was completed. The court granted the plaintiff a judgment of 75 dollars.
