Voorhees Heads Refugee Program Under Eisenhower
President Eisenhower named Tracy Voorhees former Undersecretary of the Army to co ordinate the refugee program. James Haverty will serve in a temporary unpaid post as press secretary while Voorhees studies admissions of up to 6,000 Hungarian refugees and coordinates government and voluntary agencies to provide jobs and housing. Voorhees, 68, has held multiple Army and defense posts since World War I, including Undersecretary of the Army in 1949-50 and defense adviser to NATO in the early 1950s.
