Hunters Ignore Snow As Deer Season Opens

Winter storms grip Pennsylvania as deer season begins with heavy snow in western and northern areas and lighter falls in the east. State troopers report mostly minor accidents due to icy roads, while hunters head into 4000 camps in Warren County and on. Police note roads remain passable and the season proceeds amid gusty winds and continued snowfall.

Hunters Block Pittsburgh Roads as Snow Hits

PennDOT faced staffing gaps as Pennsylvania's first winter storm hit the Pittsburgh area. Deer season depletion left maintenance crews and private contractors short, leaving main highways unsalted and unplowed for hours. Traffic snarls and stranded vehicles followed, with a tunnel backup near Lehigh delayed campers heading to hunting areas. By Sunday evening the backup cleared and most major roads were passable though many secondary routes remained impassable.

Trade Deficit Largest Ever

The United States posted a record October trade deficit as exports fell to 9.2 billion and imports rose to 12.9 billion, driven by a dock strike. Economists noted exporters sent goods abroad in September before the strike reduced October shipments, while port labor tensions on the East and Gulf coasts weighed on imports. Dock workers vote on a contract to end the containerized shipping strike is set for Tuesday.
