Burglars Hit Quality Market Office Loot Safe
Burglars looted the Quality Master Markets store office at South Gene street, smashing a sill and forcing entry. They removed the safe, knocked off the combination dial, and escaped with an estimated £100. Manager Robert Chien reported Saturday receipts were deposited. police at Lawrence Park and State Police headquarters opened an investigation.

Erie Woman Hurt In Crash On Route 97
Erie woman Mrs. Ernest Catlin, 41, was hospitalized in satisfactory condition at Hamot after a Saturday crash on Route 97 about five miles north of Union City. Er nest Callin, 51, died? No, 51, collided head on with William H. Grosser, 63, of Ridgway, who drove toward Waterford after a pickup truck stopped to turn left. Police said Grosser could not stop and veered into the Catlin vehicle. No other injuries. Estimated damage to both vehicles was 350 dollars. Possible charges are pending from the investigation.

Fall Storm Sweeps East With Tornadoes Dust and Snow
A severe storm system tracked from the Great Plains into the Mississippi Valley driving tornadic winds and blinding dust. Temperatures plunged behind the front as snow and ice hit Colorado Nebraska and Kansas with four inch depths and wind gusts up to 40 mph. In Kansas a tornado damaged buildings near Comerdia and southeast of Wichita while other areas faced hazardous roads and reduced visibility. North Dakota posted unusually warm highs before the cold front moved in. In New York state a tugboat operator was found dead in a canal in Baldwinsville.

Corry to become hub of new PRR fast freight system
By 1964 Corry is to be the heart of a modern high speed freight line as the Pennsylvania Railroad completes a $20 million upgrade on the Chautauqua Branch. The plan includes centralized traffic control, 150 car freight trains over 82 miles, and tracks and signals rebuilt to allow up to 45 miles per hour. Government compensation will fund improvements to the other Buffalo line routed via Corry, with major work on rail, curves, and passing sidings.

Tragedy Aboard Beatrice A As Fisherman Dies In Net Incident
Peter Spiridovich a 67 year old commercial fisherman died after being dragged into cold water when a winch slipped aboard the 40 foot trawler Beatrice A off Presquetea Bay. Coast Guard said he was entrapped by a slack cable as he attempted to free a tangled foot. His death followed by a report of an explosion investigation and was not autopsied per coroner Merle Wind. Two crewmen and his son were rescued as the boat experienced a gear mishap and heavy seas. This marked a second deadly accident in two weeks aboard local fishing vessels.
