President-elect Herbert Hoover landed at Punta Arenas Costa Rica aboard the battleship Maryland for his fourth good will visit in Central and South America. He was greeted by a cordial crowd as firework salutes and shore batteries exploded. The welcoming committee included the foreign minister and other officials, and Hoover headed to San Jose in formal morning attire with Mrs. Hoover nearby.
On Sunday December 21 the Presbyterian church choir will present a sacred concert at 7 40 p m in the church. Directed by Mrs R S Deway the choir of eighteen voices will perform a varied program. The public is cordially invited to attend this event.
Joe Palmquist and his Carolina Collegians will provide music at a Thanksgiving Day dinner at the Arcade Restaurant Thursday afternoon. The Collegians earlier performed here to strong praise and are now set to entertain at an indoor carnival in Warren.

Mrs Bertha Bixby Elston of Spatansburg was injured in an automobile accident south of Union City Sunday afternoon. She was transported from Union City to Corry Hospital this morning and remains in serious condition though improved today.
The second Lyceum course number will be offered at the High School Auditorium Thursday evening. The play The Final Year will be presented. It is a comedy on the Bret year of married life written by Bynank Craven. The offering comes highly recommended.
Sevre and team arrived at the Philadelphia Navy Yard to conduct a formal inspection of the plants. A senior official accompanied the party and soldiers escorted them through the facilities and reserve areas.
Washington November 28 The Interstate Commerce Commission announced it would not extend the installation of automatic train control devices and automatic signals for safety study. The commission said the plan would cost vast sums yet argued preventing loss of life justifies vigorous safety measures.
Thanksgiving Day will be quietly observed in Corry with union services arranged by Berlin Cloverly at 10:30 a m Thursday. Rev Pratik A Winer of the First Methodist Episcopal Church will deliver the sermon. Pastors from other Protestant churches will participate and special music will be provided by the Double Quartette under Professor Hoffmeister. The offering supports the Near East relief. Catholic services will also be held in St Thomas and St Michael churches with no special observance announced. City life to pause for the holiday.
National Bank of Corry announces Christmas savings checks will be mailed December 10 with the 1829 savings club opening in December. Officials say the bank will distribute thousands of dollars in early December as part of the year’s savings program.
New York aboard inspector general Hoover presiding at hearings on the Vestris sinking to determine if the liner was properly inspected. He blamed poor seamanship and mismanagement at the Vestris for the disaster, though a final finding was not yet reached.
Nov 28 Manila reports a third typhoon approaching the Philippines and Guam. The Corry Lodge of Elks will distribute about twenty five Thanksgiving baskets to poor and needy families in the city. The distribution is led by Stanley H. Nichols exalted ruler and will provide families with a holiday dinner they might otherwise lack.
A list of low license numbers from 1 to 11 was released by the state highway department. Number 1 is awarded to Gov. Wighet, followed by other elective state officials. Number five is for W. W. Atterbury, president of the Pennsylvania railroad, with R. P. Wright of Erie noted for number 1, and Paul D. Wright of Hie listed near number 9.
An elderly nurse at Denver General Hospital shot Patrolman Evans who was a patient. The suspect fled after injuring herself and left a note claiming she had planned the act for years. Local police investigate the chaotic incident and motives remain unclear.
