Jamestown November 27 A general eight per cent rise in rents across Chautauqua County was approved by Federal Housing Expediter Tighe G Woods based on higher county property taxes The board had suggested a twenty per cent increase in Mayville October but only the eight per cent was accepted The remaining twelve per cent aimed at offsetting landlords reduced net operating income Officials said more local proof would be needed before considering that portion The plan now goes to the U S Emergency Court of Appeals in Washington for final decision The study and board recommendations will accompany any statements the expediter submits

Service Wednesday for Lt Harland Pelton
The body of late Lt. Sgt. Harland T. Pelton will arrive Tuesday morning. Born in Ausora on April 11, 1914, he joined the Air Corps in 1941 and was killed near Aveto, Italy, on June 29, 1944 as a flight bombardier with the 85th Squadron, 47th Bomb Group. He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart with two oak leaf clusters, and the Air Medal. Interment was at Bari, Italy, with services in Columbus and at Grove Cemetery. Surviving are his stepfather and mother, sister, and grandfather. Friends may call at Brackett’s Funeral Home. service Wednesday at 3 p.m. Military interment will follow.
