PHILADELPHIA The Pennsylvania State Supreme Court today upheld the dismissal of a Pittsburgh high school teacher who had been charged by the superintendent of schools with being a Communist. Miss Dorothy Ament, a former English teacher at Taylor Allderdice High School, Pittsburgh, taught there about 14 years. Dr Earl A. Timmick, superintendent of schools in Pittsburgh, preferred charges against Miss Ament, alleging she was a Communist.
In Prague a key non Jewish defendant Tormey admitted he covered up an anti Moscow conspiracy. Deputy security minister Emel Svab and others are on trial along with 14 Reds for attempting to overthrow President Clement Gottwald. Only Bedrich Reicin remains to be heard.
George Meany was elected head of the American Federation of Labor after a lengthy period of leadership uncertainty. The 40 year old Meany succeeds William Green who died recently, triggering a fight among AFL leaders and CIO members.
The Revenue Bureau orders 165 field offices to stay open longer and add evening hours before returns are due as part of an eight month reorganization. Sgt John P Jones of Manchester Massachusetts aided the scheme. both were arrested September 21 in Tokyo. If convicted Cascio faces life imprisonment.

Willis and Wheeler sustained only minor damage in a separate collision five miles west.
Acie Riddle of Sparta Township and Raymond C Hicks of Spartansburg were sentenced by Judge Herbert A. Mook in Crawford County Court. Riddle received one and a half to five years in Western Penitentiary for stealing two watches from the Richard Witmer store in Spartansburg. Hicks paid 150 dollars and costs or faced 90 days in jail for weapon law violations. The sentences followed guilty pleas and an overtime session of court.
President elect Dwight Eisenhower announced two additional confirmations for his future cabinet. Senator Arthur V. Fuibert? Benson of Salt Lake City was named secretary of agriculture and Sherman Adams of New Hampshire selected as White House chief of staff, with notes of support from party and farm groups.
