More than 20 witnesses testified as the House committee on local government weighs amendments, with officials citing 800,000 substandard homes.

A 16 year old allegedly stole a 1965 station wagon from Lake Diesel Erie and wrecked it on Route 8 in Wattsburg at 10 50 a m. The driver fled and was located two miles away after a State Police helicopter chase. He is under juvenile petition.
An Erie man was killed by a shotgun blast following an apparent argument in Harborcreek Pennsylvania. Samuel R. DeLeo, 37, died from a single 12 gauge blast. Rodney A. Mellquist, 25, of Harborcreek, is charged with murder and jailed in Erie County pending a hearing. The shooting occurred at Mellquist's home.
Corry native Ray Tanner, special assistant for Indian Affairs at the EDA of the Commerce Department, received the Silver Medal for his work on the Indian Economic Development program across more than 100 reservations in 30 states including Alaska. Under officials guidance, about $100 million in projects supported American Indian communities over four years.
