Pioneers Endure Alaska Homestead Trial in Susitna Valley
In Talkeetna Alaska seventeen Michigan 59ers remain in the Susitna Valley after three years of harsh living. The Siks and others fought isolation and cold while building homesteads under the act. They work long hours for income and maintain small farms with chickens rabbits a cow and a calf as they face frequent shortages and wild weather.
