Edward B. Dickenson, 24, of Cracker's Neck Virginia, released today from the U S Army Disciplinary Barracks Leavenworth Kansas after court martial for collaborating with the enemy while a POW. Sentenced May 4 1954 to 10 years confinement and dishonorable discharge. later reduced to five years and further cut by good behavior. EX NEWSPAPER DIES CHICAGO William Shaw 72 head of public relations firms former Midwest newspaper man died yesterday. Shaw served on editorial staffs in Leavenworth Kansas, St Joseph Missouri and St Paul Minnesota.
Torrential rains and 85 mph winds sweep through British Columbia causing three homes to be wrecked near Prince Rupert. Eight people are feared dead with seven missing. Reports arrive via amateur radio from stranded communities 500 miles south as most communications fail. A Vancouver ham relays word of a child recovered from the rubble and another believed dug out alive.
Bear man James P. Widing reported his car stolen after parking on West Main near Hear Center Street. Officers later found the vehicle on South First Avenue at 5:20 p m with a dead battery but a full gas tank, suggesting the thief abandoned it.
A San Diego sailor Raymond Lestey Cartier, 29, a St. Paul native stationed with the Navy, was charged with murdering his wife Geneva Eileen Morison, 22, who lived in Crawford County. Her charred body was found November 11 in their San Diego duplex. Neighbors heard quarrelling before a fire. Cartier, held for burning time, said they had been drinking. A relative said they married about 10 months prior. Mrs. Cartier worked at Convair in San Diego and had been on the coast eight years. Cartier had previous marriages, ending in divorce.
