Can Wife Be Forced To Testify In Local Case

A December 4 preliminary hearing for Carmen Rainieri on aggravated assault and battery and reckless endangerment tests if a wife can be compelled to testify against her husband. Pennsylvania law bars spousal testimony except in specific cases, leaving City Solicitor Rozelle as a key witness if the judge rules against compelment. Rainieri, estranged from his wife, allegedly fired at a car carrying Rozelle and the wife, though no injuries occurred. The hearing was postponed earlier due to Rozelle’s absence. Rainieri is represented by Richard Scarpitti with the district attorney’s office handling the prosecution.
