State pushes work on four lane Route 6 corridor
Roscoe New York The Route 1 Quickway expands next month with a six mile four lane section between Livingston Manor and Roscoe giving Sullivan County 45 miles of Quickway. By 1971 the state will have 390 miles of toll free east to west highway from Harriman to the Pennsylvania line. Route 17 Expressway segments evolve into a 150 mile piece by late 1969 with six mile Delaware County sections and a Johnson City to Tioga County line link to the Tioga County line where the Southern Tier Expressway begins. The combined Route 17 and Southern Tier routes may be named Route 17 Southern Tier Expressway. A 268 foot cut into Hawk Mountain is included in Delaware County. The expressways follow the Route 17 corridor with some deviations and cross into Pennsylvania to save costs. Interstate status requests seek 90 percent federal funding. some segments are 100 percent state funded.
