Flood control dams would flood large western Pennsylvania area
Federal engineers estimate the eight proposed flood control dams would impound over 2,000,000 acres across western Pennsylvania. The Kinzua structure would be the largest at 154 feet high and 4,250 feet long, holding about 930,000 acres of water. Opposition has grown in Warren and the Kinzua valley with some residents favoring multiple smaller dams for safety.
