Elizabeth Taylor Book Sparks Mixed Portrait In Harper Review

A Harper and Row biography of Elizabeth Taylor portrays a self critical yet guarded star. The book refrains from an autobiography and offers a superficial, conversational tone while detailing her London upbringing, Hollywood rise, and complex view of love and fame.

State of the Unions The Spoken Word Is In The Air

A memoir critique contrasts Louis B Mayer’s MGM dictatorship with backstage dismissal threats to workers. It depicts Miss Taylor’s shifting loves and marriages and notes her fixation on Richard Burton. The reviewer laments the book’s title.
