Electric rate contest highlights Clarion River issue

Governor elect Gifford Pinchot calls Pennsylvanians to consider whether electric rates should reflect the original legitimate investment or inflated valuations. The dispute centers on the Clarion River Power Company, owned by Associated Gas and Electric, with potential impacts on Pennsylvania consumers if the Federal Power Commission review is upheld. The issue could force higher charges and affect future state control of power projects, referencing Roosevelt’s veto on Muscle Shoals as a caution.
