A 11 year old Corry native Davie Clough was accidentally shot by a companion’s rifle during a hunting outing near Pittsfield. The incident occurred Saturday night as the group, including relatives Rickerson and Ripps, attempted a tree-stand retrieval. The youth died at the scene, and funeral arrangements were announced by the Clough family.
A fire at Tony Jackson's welding shop in Springstremt was quickly contained. The blaze involved a large tank truck operated by Montagve and Van Saexih dealers in Keystone teoline and the hydrogen line. Firefighters prevented a larger explosion as the main tank released fog and extinguishers were deployed. Chief Dunkle controlled bystanders during the incident.
In Tagrsonville on November 17 governors from states including Georgia, Michigan, Colorado, Maine and others met to discuss conservation, water power and reclamation. The opening session featured remarks by Guy and Parrett of Texas as well as delegates Walker, Cox, Baxter and Trinkler among others. Afternoon talks planned on taxation and future officer elections to guide next year’s agenda.
A fire at Jersey City caused extensive damage, estimated near three million dollars, destroying two railroad piers and multiple barges along with freight cars. Typhoid fever claimed the life of 20 year old Fletcher Sparling of Wrightsville after hospital care failed, with funeral services planned at Alexander's Undertaking Parlors and burial in Wrightsville.
A military bulletin from Chicago reports General Dawes is resting comfortably after an operation for hernia. The bulletin notes he slept well, spent a comfortable night, and is showing good recovery progress under medical care. The vice president visited the patient during the recuperation.
City schools host two representatives from the State Department of Education. Dr Glass will speak to the Teachers Institute Tuesday evening on Educational Growth. Dr Strick will address Kiwanis and meet board officials Thursday. Short programs planned at the Senior High School with visits to other buildings. Public invited to observe and hear about the trades school proposal.
Cast of Three Live Ghosts makes strong progress toward opening night with a dress rehearsal tonight. The Community Players plan two performances at the High School auditorium this Thursday and Friday. Kiwanis members urge ticket holders to distribute remaining tickets this week.
A spate of minor crashes occurred as slick pavement raised danger on city streets. Cars collided at intersections including Center and South, Concord and Main, with no serious injuries reported. A few drivers skidded into ditches on Penley Lake and Union City roads amid slick, hazardous conditions.

George Dismert, an engineer, was killed and several others injured when Missouri Pacific trains No. 90 and No. 13 collided head on at Syracuse, east of here. Tlare Dunham returns to Go Wanda after weekend visit.

The plan includes tripling to expand the World Court, pressuring for disarmament, and shaping Lausanne and German treaties while challenging State Department policies on Mandarin, Dominican, and Haitian occupations.
Charles Sturdevant, 67, of Wheel Veet Wayne township, was found dead in bed Sunday morning by his wife. He leaves a wife, one son Harney, and two daughters Helen and Frances. Funeral services are Tuesday at 10:20 at his home, with burial in Britton.
