Welfare fund needs show big increase in welfare work
Governor Fisher said welfare appropriations for the 1929 Legislature would exceed 1927 levels to cover the current biennium. Bond issues for welfare forestry rods and armories were defeated, but many voted for them. The last Legislature allocated 7.9 million dollars for welfare. A Republican Women’s convention urged 10,000 dollars for welfare next biennium, with focus on the epileptics colony project at Selvis Grove and the new institution for permanent mental defectives in New Cumberland Cumberland County.

Mount Etna’s eruptive force eased today as lava speed and volume dropped. The main lava flow moved toward Nusziata but large outlets ceased. attention shifted to housing the destitute and rehabilitation. Activity from the feeder stream near the feray source declined.
Kiwanis to Sponsor Holiday Tree Decorations in Corry
Corry merchants will adorn the business district with miniature illuminated Christmas trees during the holiday season. Kiwanis club members decided to sponsor the scheme again and committees will prepare erecting the trees along curbs. The project starts earlier this year for smoother handling. The plan was discussed at the weekly Club meeting at the Hotel Corry today, with committee reports and brief talks.

Missionary Society Meeting At M H Church Describes Snow Plan
The November gathering of the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society met at Smith Street with Mrs C J Robbins in charge. Mrs Gorton reported on the Erie convention. Readings by Mrs O A Johnson Mrs Frank Lille Mrs Harold Dietzel and Mrs Frank Jones. Tea was served after adjournment. The December meeting will be hosted by Mrs H L Gorton. Superintendent Snead of the State Highway Department outlined winter snow removal plans and cooperation with city and townships, including Hare Creek route. Mayor Bracken and Mrs Snead attended. Enrollment Up In Corry Public Schools By Forty Two
The Corry Public Schools show an enrollment increase of forty two over the same period in 1827. Superintendent Ralph S. Dewey reports the gain is entirely in the two high school grades, with total enrollment eight higher than the term start and a fourteen rise in grades, while junior and senior high show a minor decline. The board met with President A. Hillstrom and other officials. treasurer and tax collector reports were reviewed, October receipts exceed two thousand two hundred dollars. Assistant plans include installing window shades in the Senior High auditorium to allow daytime slide and film shows for educational purposes, plus a travel entertainment program for students next week. The group discussed stage lighting upgrades, bids from Corry and Grand Electric Shops, and elected Elmer L. Young to a vacancy on the property committee.

Plan for milk distribution approved by board of education
The Board of Education approved a plan by the Patent-Teacher Association Council to distribute milk to underweight children in four lower grades. Survey of 606 children found 12 underweight. 220 approved, 89 unable to pay. some parents offered to contribute. Local dairyman Dewey reinforced milk's distribution and benefits observed in other cities.

Nov 16 Folkestone reports indicate ten sailors missing after the steamer Alive of Riga struck near Jury's Gap. The Rye lifeboat faced gale conditions while rescuers worked along Jury's Gap Denge Marsh and Galloway. Alive was abandoned at Dungeness and later drifted as a derelict. The Alive sprang a leak. her crew were rescued by the Smyrna of Hamburg after SOS.

Trustees of the Corry Public Library perfected organizational plans for the year. Mrs Mandel Barnes, former president of the Board of Education, was elected president and Frank T. Admit Former Testimony in Stewart Case Opens on Reform
The government won a ruling allowing admission of former testimony in the Stewart perjury case. Justice Jennings Bailey ruled Stewart was sworn properly and allowed the February and April appearances to be read as part of the record. Nye, the new government witness, was excused briefly as stenographic corrections proceeded.

A service of unusual interest by Rev P G Childs and the Colored Choir of Erie observed loyalty week in the church last evening. A Fellowship supper and society representation are planned for 7 oclock tonight. The school paper Die Dipla Suhon edited by Mise Costelin Ressler was issued by St Edward's parochial school pupils and is a neatly arranged two page mimeographed publication.

The Treble Clef provided music, and a card party was announced for Friday to support the Building Fund.
