All-Star teams are phony says Dan McElowney

Journal sports editor Dan McElowney argues post season all star teams are unfair and should be eliminated. He cites bias in selections and notes he was among those critiquing the practice while praising Dennis Kubiak as the Beaver standout. He supports combined all star units but rejects divisional and state teams. He doubts his view will change voting.

Fifth Of Series Orioles Could Surprise Some By Low Hanna

Franklin Rocky Grove's Orioles split conference play last season at 8-8 and posted an overall 10-12 record in 1971-72. Coach Chuck Martin relies on two 6-4 and 6-3 seniors Curt Campbell and Randy Owens to boost rebounding and scoring. Randy Ritchey, a 5-8 backcourt standout, returns along with Ken Eagles at 5-11. Bench strength comes from Dan Mong, Mark Anderson, Dick Rial, and Don Moore, as Marin expects Campbell to be a major college prospect and the team to push a quick fast break.
