Martin urges universal military training as key to defense

U S Sen Edward Martin told the Pennsylvania Council of Republican Women convention that universal military training is the foremost need to defend the nation. He warned that World War III could be averted only by building the full power of American military, industrial and spiritual strength. The event in Harrisburg drew about 1 200 delegates from 52 000 members amid a three day conclave. Gov James Duff and Gov elect John Fine were set to appear together in a luncheon. Mrs Helen Schluraft predicted Fine would appoint at least one woman to his cabinet, though the council will not recommend female executive posts.
