The Corry School Board approved adding a kindergarten to the new South Side elementary project in a 5 to 2 vote. Opponents argued taxpayers cannot afford a citywide program amid ongoing building and teacher pay costs. A special noon session at the Hotel Corry was set to decide on the first Ward school proposal, with options for 18 or 14 rooms.
Corry Area Joint School Committee wrestled with how to fill the high school principal and assistant principal posts starting July 1 1963. The debate followed a memorandum from Supt Thomas Shupe suggesting April appointment to allow time for resignation from current posts and considering retirement rules for workers over 65. In Squirrel Hill Pittsburgh a two car collision late last night killed 19 year old Arthur Friedman and 17 year old Richard Walters. Friedman survived initial injuries but was detained on reckless driving and manslaughter charges after the fiery crash. Michael Gillespie 27 of Squirrel Hill died after being trapped about ten minutes in his burning vehicle. Walters from Hazelwood was hospitalized for observation.
The School Briefs report shows three teachers approved for absence from duty and two denied. Approved were Miss Colleen Marks to attend the American Speech and Hearing Conference, H. Lynn Rice to attend the Music Educators Conference, and Miss Ann Baresi to attend the Department of Elementary Supervision Conference, all at school or self expense. Mrs. Irvin Downs was disapproved for a Girl Scout camp directors training. Mrs. Rice was approved to accompany her husband at no extra cost. The Erie County Superintendent dinner at Ginnie's Restaurant next Tuesday invites Paul Meer dink and several board members. The Sparta Merged School District president also received an invitation. Major agenda items include Act 61 school reorganization and plans for a Corry Area National Honor Society chapter led by Mrs Martha Pfusch. The society will admit members based on scholarship, character, service and leadership with a 290 average. The Corry Area Joint School committee approved establishing a firm policy on granting absence requests by teachers, with further details continued on page three.
The Corry Area High School Athletic Association approves a winter season ticket plan. Priced at 2 for secondary students and 1 for elementary, it covers 10 basketball games, six wrestling matches, and six junior high basketball games. Savings amount to 5.60 versus per game pricing. not valid for swimming. Tickets on sale by December 21 with non transferable numbers.
Thomas R. Shupe reports a joint area recreation gap for girls in junior and senior high grades has been filled. The program runs Tuesdays and Fridays from 4 to 6 PM through next May with two instructors paid $2.50 hourly, Kathleen Borstorff and Mary Lewis. Estimated district cost after state reimbursement is $280. participants range from seventh to twelfth grade.

SALEM Oregon AP The fourth set of twins in as many visits to the hospital was born yesterday to Myr and Mrs Sherman King of nearby Aumaville. The infants are boys one girl and three boys two boys five and a boy and a girl. They had three children before the first twins arrived. The father has back injury and cannot work.
York Police veteran Harry B. King served 22 years before dying at York Hospital from a stroke suffered six weeks earlier. He was 64.
Marines cancel a planned armored force display at Guantanamo Bay after Cuban militiamen hurled rocks at Marines building a machine gun bunker along the 25 mile fence. A base notice announced a 6 30 a.m. tank parade but gave no count or official reason. Capt. Patrick E. OToole reported rocks and taunts as the standdown followed a hurried command conference with Rear Adm. Edward J. O'Donnell.

A quarter million dollars will be injected into the Christmas shopping picture as 2955 savers collect annual checks from Citizens National Bank of Corry, National Bank of Corry, and Corry Savings and Loan Association. An Air Force reservist, Joseph B. Rose, 37, of Media, was killed when two cars collided at the Fort Washington Interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike after being called to active duty during the Cuban crisis.
