Jacques Fath, noted Paris fashion designer, died today at 42 after a illness described as leukemia by some reports. He had been confined to his Paris apartment following treatment at the American Hospital and leaves wife Genevieve, a one year old son, and his parents and sister in Paris.
Trials on gambling conspiracy and bribery charges against Al and Pete Marty of Erie are set to begin Tuesday at 9:30 am. Attorneys seek a change of venue to outside Erie newspaper circulation areas, threatening delays into next week if denied. The defense plans to appeal to the State Supreme Court. Judge Elmer Evans denied a blanket continuance.

A fire destroyed a three room frame home five miles south of Uniontown. Two toddler brothers aged 1 and 2 died in the blaze. The mother, visiting a neighbor, was severely burned trying to rescue them. The father worked in a coal mine nearby. Firemen arrived after the building was leveled. Ensuing confusion left some details uncertain. Blanche and Joseph Hicks were among those rescued.
Washington sources say Republican leaders plan a Monday vote to soften a censure resolution against Senator McCarthy. An influential senator, who requested anonymity, warned that failure to reach a compromise would end chances for a quick resolution.

Diane Lindsey of Corry reported to city patrolmen at 1 45 am that a motorist swerved onto the tracks on First Avenue and Center Street causing the railroad crossing gates to be knocked out of commission by an electrical circuit break. A repairman later located the fault while gates remained down. Police gave no motive for the driver’s swerve.
