Khmer Rouge attacks seize Kep as troops go missing
Cambodian military sources report Khmer Rouge insurgents struck two army companies near Kep on the south coast in a bid to retake the town. Government forces nearly vanish as a major operation is announced to end the siege of Vihear Suor, located 12 miles northeast. In Saigon, officials deny a Viet Cong claim that a South Vietnamese air raid hit Logo, a Communist town 70 miles northeast of Saigon, with dozens dead or injured.

A oil city fire left one woman dead and others injured after flames swept a three story frame apartment building. Frances Erich, 43, died on arrival at the hospital while owner Frances Hickman, 63, survived with burns and was hospitalized in intensive care. Fire officials said the blaze began on the first floor from a dropped cigarette and spread to the third floor, with a firewall stopping progress to the second floor. Firefighters revived Hickman with mouth to mouth resuscitation. Captain Robert M. Jones and two other firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries. Fire concentrated on the first and third floors. The incident began at 1:35 a.m. and prompted a second alarm.
