Borough officials in Elgin report real estate tax assessments and collections for 1961. The notice references standard tax procedures, assessed valuation figures, and required actions by residents to provide copies of state Bureau forms.

In Burlingame California a mix up in identity led to the wrong victim being identified as Mary Hawthorne 28 an American Airlines stewardess who died in an auto crash. Joan Frost 26 also an American Airlines stewardess died in the same crash and was misidentified. After belongings were scattered the error was found when friends examined the coffin. Doctors operated to remove a spleen and relieve brain pressure on the supposedly Mary Hawthorne.
About 160 people who ran clubs at Corry Savings and Loan received Yule checks totaling 51,400. Homer Bulard, secretary of the North Center street firm, said the disbursement represents an increase over last year.
Army troops and police faced rioters in Algiers during Armistice Day ceremonies violence injuring about 100. Demonstrators clashed on Rue Michelét with police and troops as European settlers protested De Gaulle policy and independence moves.
In an interview Neu Dinh Di describes South Viet Nam as a nation occupied by Communists for years and vows strong measures to combat rebels. He credits American aid and emphasizes economic disruption of Communist influence while outlining the rebel threat in a swampy, canalized countryside near Saigon.
A trailer truck collision near Elburn Illinois killed seven members of the Richard W Chidester family returning from a hospital visit. The driver Orin Scheer 21 of Manhattan Illinois said the Chidester car crossed the center line and became lodged under the truck killing all inside. Mrs Dorothy Thomas 44 of Albla Tow is the Chidester mother in law among the deceased. The sole survivor is 1 year old Thomas Chidester in a hospital with a virus condition. Elburn Kane County lies about 35 miles west of Chicago.
AP report says a one car Route 5 crash near Erie killed James Wells and Raymond Gryce both 19, injuring two passengers Thomas Argeny 17 and Stephen Swigman 19. Wells reportedly lost control while passing a car. the vehicle hit a bridge abutment and a tree. Argeny and Swigman were hospitalized in serious condition.
State police report a 45 year old man, Joseph Wiencek of Rimersburg, died after a shotgun blast from his 11 year old son during a hunting trip near a relative's farm in Madison township. The boy, frightened by his father collapsing, believed he had a heart attack and fled to a relative for help. Authorities say the incident appeared accidental.
Mary Di Salvo, 16, died at Montefiore Hospital after her car lost control, struck a fence and overturned near Pittsburgh. The crash occurred last night, authorities said.
An ten year old boy, Ronald Gene Adams of Rule Olio, died after becoming entangled in a rope loop while on a tree platform. Investigators say he likely slipped and fell, leaving the rope loop around his neck. He was found by his sister and pronounced dead at Ash tabula General Hospital. Accidental death ruled by County Coroner Dr Clyde Roller.
Two injured children climbed a 200 foot cliff and hiked three miles to report their brother and sisters killed in a mobile home crash near San Andreas California. Michael Ray Barber nine and Melinda Geel Barber twelve were in serious condition at Mark Twain Hospital along with their mother Mary Viels Barber forty and three other injured youngsters.
The seven year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Noel of Bradley town died last night at Ha imot Hospital Erie from complications following a fall last summer. She broke her collarbone playing in the yard and later suffered a skull fracture requiring surgery after which she remained in a coma.
A long running dispute between Warren County Democrats Commissioner Lewis Crippen and Republican board president Blain Mead over the renal estate tax assessment flared into a physical exchange in the county courthouse. Crippen tapped Mead’s desk and was pushed, leading Mead to summon the sheriff. Crippen plans a written statement and may pursue action.
Raymond L. Cures, 32, is scheduled for execution in San Quentin's gas chamber on December 28 after conviction for the brutal slaving of his wife Geneva Eileent Cartier, 32, formerly of Spartansburg and Little Cooley. Dr. David Schmidt, the prison's chief psychiatrist, said an examination found no psychosis or mental illness, though some emotion problems and abnormal brain-wave findings were noted.
Mead Park Association will hold its annual session at the Municipal Building on Tuesday evening. Officers for the coming year will be elected after a report on park activities from the past year. Directors whose terms expire this year include Walter Auer Richard Rodsbacher Norman Eitinger Al Vanssens James Kelsey Al Young and Byron Nicholas.
