Fire Rips Canadian Town Wrecking Homes and Convent
Fire swept through Sorel on November 9 destroying about ten houses and the convent of the Congregation Nag. Damage estimated at 225000 dollars. The convent housed about 40 nuns and the town appealed for help as flames spread rapidly from a gasoline incident. The local fire brigade called for aid from Montreal and received assistance by special train.
