Seven people were injured, one seriously, in a sequence of automobile crashes in Corry and nearby, with two wrecks on Church and Union streets Saturday night. United Press reports in Yuma Arizona on November 9 that John Barrymore married Blaine Barrig nee Jacobs before a justice of the peace. The romance, described as wildly dramatic, ended in a quick ceremony as the stage and screen legend tied the knot with the 21 year old bride.
Glenn 39 Er nest 38 and Carl Chetton 20 of Concord township are in Curry hospital with a mysterious arm infection. Carl was moved to hospital Sunday morning as authorities work to determine the cause. The two older brothers show some improvement while exhaustive tests continue at the hospital. Charles H Strong a prominent Erie publisher and executive died at his home aged 83 He led multiple iron and coal firms and founded the Edison light and power company later Erie County Electric Co He began publishing in 1802 with Dispatch Publishing Co later forming Record Publishing Co and then the Fyjo Dispatch Herald He helped establish the Hamot Hospital Zem Zem Home for crippled children Erie Day School and Florence Grittenden Home and was active in civic causes.
Mrs. Crawford Woods of Union City wife of a Corry merchant is confined to Union City hospital with a fractured knee after a collision on the Union City Waterford road. The Woods auto rear ended Francis Conway’s machine near McGill’s station. both vehicles were badly damaged and Mrs Woods was the sole injury.
Funeral services for Charles Chic Sale, humorist of the era, will be held at the Little Church of the Mowers today. The Rev Ruth Ray of Unity Church will officiate, with attendance limited to close friends and Sale family due to pneumonia illness earlier this week.
Charles Chic Sale a character actor and humorist died of pneumonia in Hollywood. Funeral services are planned at the Little Church of the Powers with ceremonies this afternoon.
Washington November 9 The Supreme Court decided to entertain five new cases from the National Labor Relations Board challenging the validity of the Wagner Act. Lower court rulings held the act unconstitutional.
The Federal Reserve Board reported that continued economic recovery has driven industrial activity to its highest level since 1930. Virtually every sector including industry trade finance commerce and agriculture shows steady improvement through the year, per the monthly business conditions survey.
President Roosevelt pledges a Second New Deal focused on labor reform. In a message to the national labor conference, he outlines aims including safe workplaces, adequate support for the injured, unemployment and old age protections, shorter hours, fair wages, housing, and elimination of child labor. Two men died and others were burned while rescuing a worker at the Pennsylvania Electric Company substation in Warren. Michael Vescio, 21, was killed instantly while attempting to help S W Smith, 41, who died later at Warren General Hospital. Arnold Schaefer and P Crowley narrowly escaped. coroner opened an inquest. Survivors include Vescio’s mother and siblings. Smith’s wife and children survive.
Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon for Willia 74 Titusville who died Saturday at his home there from injuries suffered in an accident seven years ago. Survivors include daughter Mrs Mary Bromiley and adopted brother Sidney Walls, plus several children and a sister. Services at Sanford church near Grand Valley at 2 pm with interment in Sanford Cemetery.
