Three Corry Cases Set for Trial Tomorrow

Three Corry court cases are slated for hearing tomorrow in county criminal court. Two involve the Commonwealth against Hurtburt and Hitchcock, alleging serious charges related to a beating of a city youth. Beaten Up in Sunday Booze Bout

Hon Wenworak a Polack was badly beaten at the East End Saturday night. He appeared before Police Magistrate W C Shields this morning after being removed by Officer Merritt. Word of the fight reached police HQ and several foreigners were held. Wenworak pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and paid a four dollar fine. Dr J C Kibler treated head and facial injuries. serious condition noted.

London November 9 via United Press reports from Rome say Constantinople announced a Turkish invasion of Egypt. Russians have crossed the German border and advanced near Breslau, with pushes toward Berlin. Allied lines at Ypres and Bethune report heavy fighting, while Turkish and Russian movements dominate the day’s war news.

Deaths and Births Reported in City and Wayne Township

The local recorder of vital statistics Dr G A Biston reports one hundred and twenty-one deaths in this city and Wayne township since January 1. Births for Concord township are not kept in this city. Corry and Wayne have separate records. The ten month span shows health with few diphtheria or scarlet fever cases, no typhoid in Corry, and schools and movie houses operating despite the epidemic scare and recent smallpox scare.

School Report for the Second Month Ready

The report shows 1200 pupils enrolled citywide with 272 in the Klete School. Daily attendance averaged 114, attendance percentage 7.6, 125 cases of truancy reported, high school accounting for 64. Corporal punishment occurred on nine days, with seventeen visits to classes by parents.

Siegel Is Being Tried at Genesee

Henry Siegel head of the Siegel department stores faced grand larceny charges in Genesee Supreme Court. Indictments allege misappropriation of over two million dollars from deposits to private banks and creditors.
