Joan Kennedy wife of Massachusetts senator Edward M Kennedy was fined 200 and had her Virginia driver’s license suspended for six months after pleading guilty to driving under the influence. Judge Lewis Hall Griffith imposed the penalties. Kennedy did not attend the hearing and her plea was entered by her lawyer. The case arose from an October 9 collision at a traffic signal near the Kennedy estate in McLean Va where a car was rear ended and another then struck. No injuries were reported.

Former professor and daughter die from carbon monoxide in van
A Mansfield State College psychologist and his 13 year old daughter died of carbon monoxide poisoning after four days in a van in rural New Mexico. Four relatives were hospitalized in fair condition. A charcoal cooker in the back produced lethal gas in the small space. The Orr family from Exeter Pennsylvania were believed to have been dead about three days.
