Members of Corry's Guy & Abbey Squadron and county CAP officials joined Civil Defense personnel in Operation Recovery 1969 at Lawrence Airport. The simulated attack tested CAP airlift, casualty evacuation, and backup of Air Force operations, reflecting preparations for a real nuclear incident amid rising tensions. An unidentified body and an empty life boat marked Keo were recovered about 40 miles southeast of the Keo wreck site where the 629 foot Liberian tanker split in a storm. The body was found by the USS Fox during an intensive search across 20 000 miles of ocean off Nantucket. Greek crew members were reported by Crestwood Shipping Agencies as the Keo's agents.
