After four years of defensive lapses the Corry Beavers beat Meadville 20 to 0 at Sheen Field. The defense held Meadville to one first down, 21 rushing yards, and minus two passing yards, marking a strong finish to the 1966 season and a contrast to earlier struggles.
Bowl-Aire Friday Night Ladies Great Decorators lead with 23 wins. Tinko and Taylors tied for second at 20-12. Beavers' football prospects in 1967 look bright with varsity players returning and a strong junior varsity showing. John Burke Jr. aces Needham Golf Club on the 214 yard 11th hole.
Notre Dame 40 Pittsburgh 0 and Michigan State 56 Town 7 kept the top two teams flawless ahead of a Nov. 19 East Lansing showdown. UCLA dropped from unbeaten with 16-3 loss to Washington, needing wins over Stanford and Southern California to reach Pasadena.
In Lewisburg Penn Bucknell honored 15 senior football players in a Memorial Stadium finale. Former Beaver center Mike Vincent now at Bucknell as offensive tackle sparked praise for his quick thinking and game knowledge despite Bucknell’s 20 to 0 loss to Colgate Red Raiders.
Pittsburgh toppled Cleveland 16 to 6 at Pitt Stadium as Frank Ryan threw five interceptions and Lou Groza missed a PAT. Rookie Ron Smith led the Steelers with an 11 of 19 for 151 yards effort and Paul Martha made key plays including a game sealing interception. Cleveland drop leaves them two games back in the Eastern Conference.
The Corry Rod and Gun Club sponsors a hunter safety course starting Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in East Washington street club rooms. The class runs for three consecutive Tuesdays and is free for students. It is open to anyone over 12 years old, including those turning 12 during hunting season.
