DC Indians Plan Service For Ira Hayes
Protesters, smeared with warpaint, hold the Bureau of Indian Affairs building as a standoff continues over nine demands. They barricade with office furniture, refuse to leave after a midnight deadline, and plan a memorial at Ira Hayes’s Arlington Cemetery grave. Federal Judge Pratt refuses contempt and a government bid to evict stalls. The group seeks replacements for top BIA and related officials and vows not to leave without satisfaction of their demands.
