Surgeons described a breakthrough artificial lung saving a 235 pound steelworker crushed by a locomotive. The device, a transparent plastic box with a throat tube, powered by a motor or hand pump, breathed for him for a month aiding rib healing and enabling recovery back at work.

UAL Launches Probe of Colorado Crash
