North East Club Bandit Granted Parole After Robbery Case
The North East Club Bandit, identified as Abstie Abate, was paroled after pleading guilty to his role in the 1939 holdout that netted $490. He admitted to standing watch at the door while others robbed the St. Joseph’s Club. Abate, believed to have entered the country with forged papers, was tracked by the FBI to San Francisco and returned for sentencing.
