Lawrence Simpson a Seattle seaman appealed directly to Adolf Hitler for a pardon from a three year sentence for treason. U S Consul General Douglas Jenkins and Consul Hayes Geist stopped the attempt and handed the appeal to the German Ministry of Justice in Bremen on October 19, with Simpson signing the petition at the prison.
