Downtown Erie talks on 10 to 12 story municipal building
A group led by Edward Baker of the Baker Co and J Spencer of First National Bank urged Erie to study a modern 10 or 12 story municipal building filling the block between State and Peach Streets and South Park Row and 7th. The plan would dedicate the first floor to stores and place lawyers and executives elsewhere in the structure.

A gas explosion in a two story Sanora building sent flames through a wholesale store on the first floor and forced nine people from second floor apartments. Fire Chief John Voll attributed the $60,000 loss to a leaky pipe that allowed gas to collect in the cellar and ignite from a pilot flame of a water heater.
