Baccalaureate Service Set for Corry High Tomorrow

Corry Area High School plans a 8 p.m. baccalaureate in the auditorium for the 1960 graduates. Rev. William C. Seitz Jr will deliver the sermon titled Hill Top Decision with a program including hymns, organist Judith Messenger, choirs, and scripture from Genesis. Drunken driver charged after 400 foot crash into storage building

Frank Armstrong 29 faced drunken driving charges after his 1953 hardtop left West Columbus Avenue, crossed a road berm, struck a storage and tool shed at Corry Peat Products Co. The car damaged gas lines, and Armstrong and passenger Robert Wilcox escaped serious injury. Armstong was treated at Coty Memorial Hospital and declared unfit to drive.

Countywide reassessment boosts Corry taxes by ninety percent

Erie County property owners face a $27,000 rise in taxes as reassessment raises overall assessments. Corry will see tax loads up nearly 90 percent with 2,500 owners paying $87,668 this year versus $60.07 previously. Millage settled at nine despite talks of six or seven, leaving most taxpayers bearing the increase. Tax cards will be issued next Tuesday by City Treasurer Carl Smith.

Route 6 Crash Damages $415 Near Corry

Corry State Police report a Route 6 collision three miles west of Corry after Leonard Emberg 32 of Union City failed to see a westbound school bus. Emberg claimed the bus stopped to discharge passengers and did not lights until after stopping. He was rear ended by Robert Weiss 22 of Cleveland who stated he could not avoid the crash. Vehicle damage totaled about $415 with $400 to Weiss’s car and $15 to Emberg’s.
