Sparta Raises School Taxes Five Mills
SPARTASBURG The Sparta Merged School Board raised the property millage from 25 to 30 mills to fund the 1858-59 budget of 174 030. President Richard L. Witmer said the increase provides a safety cushion amid state salary mandates and inflation. The 1958-59 budget drops from last year’s 178 000, with per capita tax and wage tax unchanged. The district nets only 5 of the 10 per capita levy in the township due to bonds for township building construction. The board also adopted a school calendar, with classes starting August 25 to allow the district to be settled.
