State crews began work this morning on Kane streets, from Clay Street to Widville, tying in with Roosevelt Highway and the 84P trail. The project includes paving and surface repairs along Main, Biddle, Kalgay, and Gleave, replacing worn surfaces to better traffic flow and drainage.
City announces a block by block street reconstruction to avoid closing long stretches. Officials say the aging street has not been in good condition for some time and that work will be rushed to completion as early as possible, greatly easing public travel.
About two hundred boats assisted a flotilla on the Vil River to help flood refugees from a village identified as Pokrovek Rasjan. The flotilla pushed toward nearby points as high water overwhelmed riverside areas.
An investigation by county authorities and Internal Revenue Service agents led to the arrest of Andy Dulas of Monessen on extortion charges. He allegedly sought payment in exchange for “protection” for liquor law violators. Dulas was arrested last night by Assistant County Detective Shannon Hill, special agent William J. Calhoun, and Edward J. Wrigley of the IRS in Pittsburgh.
Mrs Clara Vandresar wife of Byron Vandresar of Corey Route No 8 died Thursday afternoon at Warren State hospital after several weeks illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 o clock from the family home with Rev Sturdevant officiating. The body will be taken to Columbus for burial in West Lawn cemetery.
