Associated Press reports William Kenrick Evans a 36 year old former Army lieutenant colonel arrested in Santa Barbara on charges of seizing and selling about 100000 in gold confiscated from Japanese in Formosa. Prosecutors say eight Japanese boxes yielded 2000 coins. four reached Chinese authorities, 97 percent recovered from Shanghai banks and sold. Bond set as 29000. Evans alleges he turned coins over to Chinese authorities.
Margate England May 21 The Labour Party voted to approve peacetime conscription by a two to one margin to break up the nation's foreign policy. The vote showed internal opposition to the policy as rebel elements argued it aligned with the hated States. A draft bill for 12 months of conscription has already passed the House of Commons.
